Why Not Try Democracy?

 Photobucket

So tomorrow is the big day. The day we pretend like we are choosing a leader. The fact of the matter i it's already been decided for us. It seems that the Secretary of state for Ohio has decided to steal the election:

Giro
The Columbus Free Press is reporting that the Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted allegedly ordered for “experimental software patches” to be installed on vote-counting machines in a number of Ohio counties.
According to the newspaper, voting rights activists are concerned that the software patches, which are usually used to update or change existing software, could potentially affect over 4 million registered voters, including those who live in Columbus and Cleveland.
Ohio law allows for the experimental use of voting equipment as long as it’s restricted to a limited number of precincts, and under the experimental label, equipment can legally be used without certification.

It appears that Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, is on a mission to suppress Ohio voters. During the weeks leading up to Election Day, Husted has tried everything he can come up with, even defying court orders, in order to make sure that fewer people can vote early, and now get their vote counted. A last minute directive issued by Husted could now invalidate many legal provisional ballots.
Widely viewed as the most critical state for both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns, Ohio could swing the entire election if the 11th hour mandate stands.
Issued on Friday, the directive lays out the requirements for submitting a provisional ballot. The directive includes a form that puts the burden on the voter to correctly record the form of ID provided to election officials, and Husted instructed election officials not to count ballots if the form is not filled out correctly by a voter.
Voting rights advocates filed a lawsuit late Friday, stating that this is "contrary to a court decision on provisional ballots a week ago and contrary to statements made by attorneys for Husted at an Oct. 24 court hearing."
Guess which party these guys are from? Moreover, this is not the first time. There are allegations that they stole the 2004 election too. Republicans prevented 35,000 voters in Ohio in 2004, from having their votes counted. That would have been enough to put Kerry in the White house.

But despite the media blackout, indications continued to emerge that something deeply troubling had taken place in 2004. Nearly half of the 6 million American voters living abroad(3) never received their ballots -- or received them too late to vote(4) -- after the Pentagon unaccountably shut down a state-of-the-art Web site used to file overseas registrations.(5) A consulting firm called Sproul & Associates, which was hired by the Republican National Committee to register voters in six battleground states,(6) was discovered shredding Democratic registrations.(7) In New Mexico, which was decided by 5,988 votes,(8) malfunctioning machines mysteriously failed to properly register a presidential vote on more than 20,000 ballots.(9) Nationwide, according to the federal commission charged with implementing election reforms, as many as 1 million ballots were spoiled by faulty voting equipment -- roughly one for every 100 cast.(10)
The reports were especially disturbing in Ohio, the critical battleground state that clinched Bush's victory in the electoral college. Officials there purged tens of thousands of eligible voters from the rolls, neglected to process registration cards generated by Democratic voter drives, shortchanged Democratic precincts when they allocated voting machines and illegally derailed a recount that could have given Kerry the presidency. A precinct in an evangelical church in Miami County recorded an impossibly high turnout of ninety-eight percent, while a polling place in inner-city Cleveland recorded an equally impossible turnout of only seven percent. In Warren County, GOP election officials even invented a nonexistent terrorist threat to bar the media from monitoring the official vote count.(11)

We will know tomorrow.  All I ask is that every please think about who got us where we are? What administration started the bank bail out, rolled by rules on wall street regulation that would have prevented the domino effect that went from housing crisis to need for bank bail out, put us in to protracted expensive wars at the same time,on opposite ends of the Eastern hemisphere, and which party had consistently campaigned on the premise that the poor are to blame for being poor?

It was Republicans who made the mess so deep Obama could not clean it up, what sense does it make to put them back in? The Republicans represent the 1% who control the wealth and treat the 90% like dung. They dont' want you to be rich, they are not going to make room for you to be rich just because you cow tow to them enough.

Think about it.

Get out there and vote. Every vote counts. We need real high turnout so whomever wins he feels people care about what happens.

As far as Ohio goes -- a purple state, it can go either way -- early voting has turnout down in historically D places, and very strong in historically R places. That's just turnout, not votes.

So I think the real thing suppressing D votes this year is a lack of passion compared to 4 years ago, y'know.

There's not some conspiracy to suppress D votes; just Obama wasn't the Messiah after all. He's a guy like everybody else.

as it turns out we (DEMS) won all major battle ground states. It wasn't a lack of passion, just fear and old age.

LOL. Keep that as a mental note for next time you post a piece accusing someone of "election stealing" for upgrading the software.

Congrats!

I didn't accuse them. I was just reporting on the possibility as started by others. It had to be said. There were accusations in 2004.

Actually this was more like 68. I lost that one too. This was very close. the one's I listed above we lost by a land slide. I'm sure it seems that way for you now. a miss is as good as a mile.

I'm NOT gloating. I respect your views I understand the morning election defeat is not pretty.

Um, actually, one of the pros *and* cons of being an "independent", politically, is that while I never lose an election, I never win one either. Neither of the parties really aligns with my views that well. Though there are people that I like and respect in each camp.

Take care & God bless
