Hmm. A couple of things:
First, do you think it's reasonable to take a statement from a single individual and hold it up as representative of an entire class of people, especially given the fact that the class consists of millions, with a great diversity beliefs, opinions, backgrounds, etc?
Second, the comment does raise some questions. Perhaps you can enlighten us. I'm not casting any aspersions by this, but I'm sure you have a perfectly good reason for not obtaining the PhD, right? If it is for health reasons, one has to wonder why you completed all the work but just don't have the degree. You do say that your are "ABD" (all-but-degree). And you continue to be active, writing books and participating an on-line community. If you can do that, why no degree? Or perhaps it's financial. But again, having met the academic requirements, you should be entitled to the degree without having to fork over more money. Can you help us out with this?
I did not say that guy speak for all atheists. How am I holding it up as representative? I think you are paranoid,
ABD means all but dissertation. i was just researching for the dissertation when I quite the Program. I was there for 12 years.. They said not making satisfactory progress. But that was bull shit. a lot of people take that long and the dis all I had left. I think the committee chair found a reason to turn against me. They had a policy designed to flush people out quickly. they get more money from new students than from old.

Some atheists. True enough. Some people works just as well. It isn't confined to one particular group. I have encountered Christians who are much bigger jerks than that.

Joeseph the Metacrapper didn't get the degree just because he did not meet the necessary requirements. They are rigourous for a reason. He just did not meet the line. That's all.
Someone like Dr. Paul Blaylock or Bart Erhman would crush him in an instant. He isn't even on anyone's radar.
