NPR:"Senate report details Trump's efforts to use DOJ to overturn election results"

An interim report from the Senate Judiciary Committee provides the most detailed look yet at former President Donald Trump's attempts to enlist the Justice Department in his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The report from the panel's Democratic majority documents the chaotic final weeks of Trump's presidency following his loss to Joe Biden, and how Trump tried to force Justice Department officials to help him keep his grip on power.

Department leaders ultimately resisted Trump's pressure, but it took threats of mass resignations across the department to get him to back down.

A key moment that emerges in the report is a Jan. 3 meeting in the Oval Office between Trump and senior Justice Department leaders, including then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and his top deputy, Richard Donoghue.

Trump continues to lie, says 'real insurrection' happened when he lost election POLITICS. Trump continues to lie, says 'real insurrection' happened when he lost election Rosen told the committee that Trump opened the three-hour meeting by saying: "One thing we know is you, Rosen, aren't going to do anything to overturn the election."
He is essentually saying forget the will of the people, make me king. He wants to be dicktator. Hw is still in full controlof the repubs, Duch tight cobtrol the got no votes toremove him from office. A vote for the repubs is a vote for Trump.

  1. On the contrary, we don't need state officials publicly denouncing recounts or audits of elections. That will only add fuel to the fire as such behavior serves as breeding grounds for conspiratorial speculation.

  2. there was not recount, Trump did not say re count he said ignore. He is saying "make me dictator." Trump has never shown an adequate basis for this claim in 60 court cases.

  3. Yes, he is still saying the election was stolen even though every audit shows otherwise. If he really wanted election integrity, he would have given in when the recounts showed he still lost.

  5. The immediate goal of the right, as far as I can tell, is to sow distrust in any kind of democratic process, including but not limited to elections. Take the people out of decision making as much as possible. The broader goal is to roll history back into a pre-liberal state of naturalized hierarchy. You don't hear much about neoreactionaries any more - perhaps because their ideology has quietly become dominant - but they're the ones who said the quiet part out loud.

  7. The Republicans are still hoping that he gets re-elected in 2024. They have signs that say "Don't blame me for what's going on". Also, some of them were hoping for Martial Law back in January.

I don't believe in Biden, either (I think he is either dead, or a robot), but I am a voluntaryist, not a statist:

It is easier to fight for freedom than to preserve it, and the children of World War II vets passed judgment on their fathers during the 1960s and 1970s.

Somehow I feel my generation is responsible for the children of the lost decades who rejected most of the values and liberties we fought for and many died to preserve. Blood-bought freedoms are seldom cherished by those who have not suffered or fought to preserve them.

we children of the 60s were fighting for freedom. Black, all minorities, women fought for social freedom. Young white guys fought for social freedoms they did not have those on many levels. the whole counter culture was about freedom.

The WWII guys had some freedom and were fighting to preserve it.
