I guess that I do not quite get what was taking place in the article myself...something to do with a debate challenge for a professor. I am not really one of those young earth guys myself.
I used to have message broads and U had several over the years. I used to get a lot of yammering and arguments about creationism both for and against. I found several people I respected who here good in science were dead set agaisnt creationism. That topic always resulted in real animosity and it's firs gave of more heat than light.
Indeed, there are well-educated and well intentioned people on both sides of the debate. I agree with you that discussions on creation verses evolution tend to be filled with animosity. That kind of attitude can only stifle academic discussion.
I know there are creationists who know a lot about science., when I began my PhD work at UTD there was a scientist there who had shared a noble prize he was a creationist of some stripe.Or reputed to be I never talked to him. That is a extreme rarity. But since evolution and God are not contradictions there is jut no reason to bother arguing about it
