You can add a scholar named Marxsen (Mark The Evangelist, publication date unknown) to that list, following G. Edmundson's 1913 Bampton Lectures (collected as The Church of Rome In The First Century), as well as no less than Adolph frickin' Von Harnack himself (at about the same time, not least due to his radically altered opinion about the dating of GosLuke--he allowed GosMark might date as late as 70, but figured it was more likely composed substantially earlier in the 60s, maybe as early as 65.)Jason Pratthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01602238179676591394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11516215.post-28777619168056788792010-09-02T09:08:04.181-07:002010-09-02T09:08:04.181-07:00Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, send...Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. We have a couple of document trails indicating that Mark and Luke met, even likely spent time together.

Take a look at who Paul lists on his "coworkers roster":

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow-workers. (Philemon vv 23-24)

Think about it for a minute. If you take a date of 60 A.D. (give or take) for Philemon, you have to wonder if Mark didn't already have at least a working draft at that point when he was spending time with Paul and Luke.

There's also a second paper trail suggesting Mark and Luke met, though this is less weighty for a couple of reasons. Paul again:

"Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you ... bring ... my scrolls, especially the parchments." (2 Tim 4:11-13)

Less weighty on this one: 2 Timothy is disputed in authorship, plus there's not a direct record of Mark meeting up with him and Luke. But odd that he'd mention "bring Mark" and "bring the scrolls" so quickly. Did he think "Mark" and "writing project" went together? Then again it was Paul; a writing project was always in the works whether Mark and Luke were there or not. :)

At any rate, no reason Luke had to wait for public release of Mark and general circulation and work to get hold of a copy and find a scribe like the usual scenario goes. They knew each other.

Take care & God bless
Anne / WFWeekend Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10425001168670801073noreply@blogger.com
