If one theory is more parsimonious than another, it is true (or more likely to be true). This has no foundation whatsoever, yet there are atheists (and economists) who call on "parsimony" as if it is something holy/sacred. I think part of the problem is a horrible misuse of Occam's Principle--again, not all that uncommon, alas.

Nice blog, Meta. I think I'll be hanging out here more often--there is more here of what I am looking for anyway.

Fathers&SonsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11516215.post-14243456265498279112008-01-04T16:35:00.000-08:002008-01-04T16:35:00.000-08:00Yes, I suppose I meant witnessing an act of divine...Yes, I suppose I meant witnessing an act of divine intervention...
an experience would change everything..Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11516215.post-85466988896549952992008-01-04T06:33:00.000-08:002008-01-04T06:33:00.000-08:00Divine intervention will do it. that's how I got s...Divine intervention will do it. that's how I got saved when I was an atheist.Joseph Hinman (Metacrock)https://www.blogger.com/profile/06957529748541493998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11516215.post-25151771812245215642008-01-04T06:22:00.000-08:002008-01-04T06:22:00.000-08:00Interesting post Meta.I think though, that I am fi...Interesting post Meta.
I think though, that I am finally realizing the truth that there is absolultly an element of faith required to believe in God. It is quite natural to look to natural evidence first. And I think it is true, even if given a supernatural event, there are many who would not accept it is evidence. They would instead say there Has to be a natural cause, we just haven't found it yet...
now to the Christian who is looking for such signs of evidence it is very hard to understand how someone else could be so "blind" to what is readily obvious to them.

I would liken it to C.S. lewis's
last book in the Narnia series.
The Last Battle. (don't know if you've read it...) but where the dwarves are sitting in a circle huddled and even though everyone is around them trying to show them they are safe they can't see them,
because they have convinced themselves that there is nothing else but darkness and badness around them...

At this point I am becoming convinced that unless an atheist is truly seeking and wanting to believe in God, there is virtually nothing (including divine intervention) that will convince them.
somsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
